Large QR Codes on the top of buildings are a growing trend. The idea is to sneak the codes into google maps images. These codes can be scanned by google maps users, to find additional information about a location. The big problem here is that Google Earth takes months if not years to update their satellite photos. The updated sections or photos are called “Fresh spots”. Fresh spots have improved resolution over the older images now that Google is using DigitalGlobal image provider along with NASA satellite images. Google is progressively updating maps, and will eventually show most of the map with the new higher resolution images. There’s a long time until your code shows up, and when it does, it’s is in direct violation of Google’s Terms of Service. There are several hundred buildings that are blurred out or blacked out called “blurred zones”. A great example of this is the White House. The eagle-eyed observer will note that the images of the White House show a digitally erased version of the roof in order to obscure the air-defense and security assets that are in place. Other “blurred zones” are, Air bases, Military bases, some “random” hotels in Iraq and Iran, parts of Egypt, etc. You can find a list of the top 51 blurred zones here:http://www.focus.com/fyi/blurred-out-51-things-you-arent-allowed-see-google-maps/ “Blurred zones” aren’t just limited because of national security. Advertisements are also blurred. A quick look at Times Square in New York City will show a digitally edited version without ads. Google has software that recognizes and obscures faces. A similar algorithm recognizes logos and images and blocks them as well. It’s only a matter of time until QR Codes are also recognized and automatically obscured. TLDR, You can put a QR Code on your roof, but sooner or later it’s likely to be blurred out by Google’s software. Good Luck!
So, a friend of mine told me the other night (at Denny’s at about 2am) that I was on tumblr, and I said no. Turns out one of my peeps made me this page. How nice! It’s sorta like they had a spare key outside and I was locked out and they forgot to tell me they had a key outside…..
Anyhow! I suppose this will be my random blog that only I use. I’ve been through a lot in the past 6 months, and I am now back on the work train. I guess this is the 3rd week in a row that I’ve worked 60hours in 1 week. (freelance marketing stuff) The thing about a start up is that everyone thinks you will fail so you don’t get much support. Thank God I have a few good part time employees that need this as much as I do. I really don’t see myself being an actress for much longer.
xoxo
